Live on something or other:
“Sixteen” was written and recorded entirely by Pop. In context of The Idiot‘s “Tiny Girls,” one gets the sense that Pop was having sex with under aged teens. Of course, in the 1970’s, so was Jimmy Page, so I suppose one can at least give credit for being honest about it – or, one hopes, parodying it. Call me old fashioned, but I have a hard time celebrating statutory rape. Oh well, at least 16 is above the age of consent in most places, but still, ick.
Pop casts the 16 year old in the predatory role here – he’s “an easy mark with a broken heart.”
As far as the music goes, this is a pretty straightforward rocker with some dirty guitar playing and some great cowbell use. Extra credit for cowbell.
